Dr. Nguyen Huy Thuan of the Molecular Biology Center of the DTU center for Research and Development was sponsored by IFS, the International Foundation for Science, to conduct a research project entitled "Biosynthesis and Production Optimization of Flavonoid Glycoside Compounds Using Experimental Planning Techniques". DTU and the University of Science in Ho Chi Minh City are the two Vietnamese universities being funded by IFS in 2014.
On January the 5th, the Molecular Biology Center of the DTU Institute for Research and Development held a seminar entitled: “Researching Anti-Cancer Compounds in Vietnamese Medicinal Herbs”. Attendees included Dr. Phuong Thien Thuong, Department Head of Analytical Chemistry and Standardization at the National Institute of Medicinal Materials, DTU lecturers and staff.
Professor Thomas Bock, a research fellow at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin, is highly regarded internationally for his studies of infectious diseases, using molecular epidemiology. On March 16th, he held a seminar at DTU entitled “The Hepatitis E Virus: An Underestimated and Newly Emerging Infectious Disease of the Liver”. His visit may result in a collaboration between DTU and RKI to conduct further research on HEV - the most common cause of acute viral hepatitis in developing countries.
After successful research of the DH 93 nutritional product, DTU has worked with the Hoa Vang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to spray DH93 on rice crops. The DH 93 will prevent crop disease and increase crop productivity in several communes in the Hoa Vang district. On September 6th, the Hoa Tien commune held a seminar entitled “Evaluation of the DH 93 Nutritional Product”.
The Discovery of Antibiotics-Encoding Gene Clusters, Biosynthetic Pathways and Activities. On July 5th, the DTU Center for Research and Development held a seminar entitled “Discovery of Antibiotics-Encoding gene clusters, biosynthetic pathways and activities: Aminoglycoside and epothilone”. Professor Jae Kyung Sohng, Director of the Institute of Bimolecular Reconstruction (IBR), in the Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering, at Sun Moon University in Korea, spoke on the topic.
On June 18th, the DTU Center for Research and Development held a seminar entitled: “Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer Applications”. Mr. Phan Kim Pham, a Vietnamese-American expert from Agilent Technologies in the USA, gave a presentation to lecturers and students of the DTU Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
On June 18th, Dr. Duong Hong Quan, a member of the DTU Center for Research and Development, presented a scientific abstract, entitled “Pancreatic Stem Cell Cancer: Principles and Therapeutics”. Lecturers and students attended from the DTU Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
From April 27th to 29th, DTU hosted the 2014 International Conference on Computing, Management and Telecommunications (ComManTel 2014). In attendance were more than one hundred local, national and foreign scientists. More than one hundred papers were submitted scientists from twenty-one countries, demonstrating the important role of Computing, Management and Telecommunications in the digital age.
Duy Tan University held a “Light-Emitting Diode Applications for Solid-State Lighting” seminar on October 8th, to strengthen ties with local businesses. Attendees included Associate Professor. Pham Hong Duong, of the Materials Science Institute at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Dr. Ha Dac Binh, of the DTU Center for Research and Development, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, DTU staff and faculty.
On Oct 1st, DTU held a research seminar on the fabrication of silica glass using the Sol-Gel method. Attendees included Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU Provost and President, Professor Vu Xuan Quang, Director of the DTU Center for Research and Development, Mr. Masayuki Nogami, a Professor from the Department of Advanced Materials at NITECH and President of the Japanese Sol-Gel Society, DTU lecturers and staff.
